Consisting only of commons, Pauper is one of the cheapest formats in Magic. Although for many years it had been a casual format based on Magic Online, the unification of Online and Paper Pauper has allowed it to break into competitive play.
Pauper is a format defined by what it doesn’t have. Many effects are only printed at higher rarities, such as Wrath of God and quality dual lands.
Many unusual cards see play in Pauper that are crazy but unplayable elsewhere, such as Tortured Existence. Pauper has a lot of interesting older cards to explore.
